Reducing Solar Inverter Downtime

23 October 2026 · 5 min read · By Sunce Renewables technical team

In a commercial or industrial solar plant, a single failed inverter can mean thousands of units of lost generation every week. Here is how plant owners keep downtime low.

Strategies that work

  • Remote monitoring with alerts, so a fault is spotted the same day — not at month end
  • A repaired standby unit for plants with several identical inverters
  • A small spares kit of fuses, fans, connectors and communication dongles on site
  • Root-cause analysis of repeat failures instead of repeated resets
  • Scheduled preventive maintenance before peak generation season

Why repeat failures happen

If the same inverter fails again within months, the fault was never fully diagnosed — or an external cause (grid voltage, cabling, earthing) was never fixed. Replacing parts without finding the root cause just delays the next breakdown.

How Sunce helps commercial plants

For C&I plants we combine SCADA and string-level monitoring with AMC plans, so under-performance and faults are flagged early. Repaired units are load-tested before re-installation, and we analyse failures across the fleet to fix the cause, not just the symptom.
