Solar Inverter Repair vs Replacement

20 October 2026 · 5 min read · By Sunce Renewables technical team

When an inverter fails, the decision is financial as much as technical. Compare the two options on these factors.

Cost

Repair usually costs a fraction of a new inverter. Replacement includes the new unit, installation and commissioning.

Downtime

Simple repairs restore generation quickly. Repairs needing imported parts may take longer than buying a replacement off the shelf — ask for timelines on both.

Warranty

A new inverter carries a fresh manufacturer warranty; repairs carry a service warranty on the work done.

Efficiency

Modern inverters can be slightly more efficient, which matters for large plants with long remaining life.

A simple rule

If the repair cost is well below a new inverter and the unit is otherwise healthy, repair. If the inverter is old, badly damaged or repeatedly failing, replace — and consider keeping the repaired old unit as a spare.
