Most inverter faults are repairable. But there are situations where replacement is the smarter investment. Here are the signals we use when advising customers.
Replace the inverter when…
- The repair estimate is close to the price of a new inverter
- The inverter is badly fire, flood or lightning damaged across several boards
- Parts are no longer available and no equivalent exists
- It has failed repeatedly in a short period despite proper repairs
- Its efficiency is far below modern inverters and your plant is large enough for the difference to matter
- You are expanding your plant and need more capacity anyway
Otherwise, repair first
If none of these apply, repair is almost always better value. A repaired old inverter can also be kept as a standby after you upgrade.
